Carefully selected ingredients
#Grower
SHUKA uses only seeds and sugar. Therefore, we carefully select each and every raw material, using only those worthy of being passed down to future generations. Specifically, we judge them based on the following three criteria.
Moriya Farm in Kitami City, Hokkaido, a major production area for runner beans.
1. We know the faces of the producers
We choose ingredients where we can see who is growing them, where, and with what intent, and can resonate with that vision.
Our artisans visit the fields themselves to meet the producers. Sometimes, we assist with harvests and other tasks, learning about the ingredients in the process. While it is difficult to travel overseas, we conduct remote visits and work with reliable partners who can convey the faces of the producers and who maintain a deep respect for them.
2. Respect for nature
What we always feel when meeting farmers engaged in low-environmental-impact agriculture is their respect for nature. Of course, pesticide-free and organic farming are important, but having seen agricultural sites firsthand, we have learned that the necessity of pesticides varies greatly depending on the crop and the region in which it is grown.
Therefore, at SHUKA, we prioritize the information we have verified on-site and the spirit and character of the producers over certifications and labels.
3. Passion for quality
Agriculture is craftsmanship. We want to create confectionery with producers who are passionate about making delicious, high-quality products and who put in the effort to achieve that.
